Cub Scouts -- Birdhouses, Food Pyramids, & Cakes - OH MY!

On Wednesday, Landin had his monthly Cub Scout Pack Meeting - and with it came a whirlwind of building, gluing, cutting, pasting, baking, and decorating to ready for the big night.

Landin had to build a birdhouse (he opted for a colorful theme utilizing the many decorative elements present in his "I'm not bored anymore Art Jar" I made him for Christmas) :He had to create a Food Pyramid (Landin had to research the structure of the pyramid, and then cut out pictures for each category.... This activity was all part of his "health" achievement for Cub Scouts): And last, but not least, he had to Bake a Cake with his Dad for the Father Son bake-off . The cake had to be homemade, and would be entered into a contest with categories like "tallest", "longest", "most colorful", and "most creative". Landin was aiming for a prize in the "Cub Scoutiest" - which WAS actually a category. Brice baked a huge circle cake and he and Landin covered it with chocolate frosting. I added a "scroll" made of rolled-out sugar fondant and wrote out the Cub Scout Promise on the scroll. :We worked hard through the week to get everything ready for Wednesday, which was good planning given how busy the day turned out to be (Landin had school from 8-3:30, Strikers Soccer from 5-6:30, and Cub Scouts from 6:30-9pm). In the end the whole day was a big success. Landin's Birdhouse and Food Pyramid made a great showing and he won the "Cub Scoutiest" prize for his cake. Now, on to the next project...
